Registration Fees

Sponsoring agencies determine the participant fees for the program (usually ranging from $275 to $375.) There is an optional certification process that confers the title Certified Breastfeeding Educator™ and costs $25.


Continuing Education Credits

This continuing education activity is being submitted for approval to the Missouri Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credential Center's Commission on Accreditation. It is also being submitted for L-CERPs awarded by the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners (IBLCE).

Continuing Education Credits for Participation in Less than Three Days of the Program

Participants may attend single days of some programs.  The following contact hours have been submitted for approval
(for 60 minute contact hours and 60 minute L-CERPS):

Day One: 8.3 contact hours and L-CERPs
Day Two: 8.3 contact hours and L-CERPs
Day Three: 6.0 contact hours and L-CERPs  (didactic sessions only)
Day Three: 2.3 contact hours and L-CERPs  (certification activities only)

Continuing Education Credits for Participation in the Three-Day Program:

Three days attendance without certification activities:         
        22.6  Contact Hours and L-CERPS

Three days attendance
with certification activities:
         25 Contact Hours and L-CERPs


Certification and Re-certification as a Certified Breastfeeding Educator™

Please note: Certification is available for participants who attend the entire program.

After participating in the three day program, optional certification is available.  Participants must:
        Complete role play demonstrations, complete a breastfeeding assessment.
        Discuss a plan to recommend for a common breastfeeding challenge.
        With 80% accuracy, complete a multiple-choice examination.
        Pay a $25 certification fee.

Re-certification is required every five years. Certified Breastfeeding Educators™ who participate in 5 contact hours of continuing education in five years after initial certification (or re-certification) are eligible for re-certification. The continuing education activities can be part of the Breastfeeding Educator Program™ or other continuing education programs that address breastfeeding promotion and assistance.  See

        Participants who complete the Breastfeeding Educator Program™ are NOT QUALIFIED to represent themselves as Lactation Consultants
